Write-up Article

Closers, due to their limited number of innings pitched, do not have a critical impact to the standard fantasy baseball team.  I look at them as a necessary evil, but a necessary one nonetheless.  While no closer has accumulated enough FBHOF points for induction, this page highlights the best of them.  Below are the peak 5 year averages for the Top-5 closers of the fantasy era plus a listing of the Top-25.

Dennis Eckersley - 81 IP, 5 W, 0.84 WHIP, 2.14 ERA, 84 K, 38 Saves

Dan Quisenberry - 132 IP, 8 W, 1.08 WHIP, 2.51 ERA, 45 K, 39 Saves

Trevor Hoffman -   74 IP, 5 W, 0.96 WHIP, 2.38 ERA, 92 K, 39 Saves

Mariano Rivera -   76 IP, 5 W, 0.98 WHIP, 1.88 ERA, 70 K, 49 Saves

Goose Gossage -    86 IP, 7 W, 1.06 WHIP, 2.25 ERA, 85 K, 21 Saves
